I began playing drums around 1984 after brief attempts to follow in my father’s footsteps with trumpet and piano. Some friends at school had formed a band and needed a drummer, so I decided to give it a go. My music teacher allowed me to take the battered old school drum kit home for the summer holidays, and from then on I never looked back. At the age of 15, my dad took me to see Buddy Rich, known as ‘The Greatest Drummer in The World’, and I was truly inspired. Since then, Buddy has always been my favourite drummer, but I’ve also been influenced by the likes of Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Bernard Purdie, Jeff Porcaro, Stewart Copeland, Abe Laboriel Jr, and not least, Ringo Starr. The list of great drummers I love could go on and on…

Whilst still at school, I was gigging and earning money from drumming, and knew it was what I wanted to pursue as a career. I took private drum lessons in Burnley from a great local drummer called Eric Hammond, and went on to study music and drums at college in Accrington. After leaving college, I was working in musical instrument shops by day, and gigging by night. I had formed my own cover band, and was gaining valuable experience in the pub and club scene all over the UK. Good drummers always seem to be in demand, and I have worked with countless  musicians and bands of differing styles over the years, including people such as Tony Thorpe (Rubettes), Denny Laine (Wings), Bobby Elliott (The Hollies), Sara Lowes, The Earlies and many more. I also have vast experience as a recording drummer, and have worked with great producers / engineers such as Gareth Cousins (Sting, Elvis Costello, Roger Daltrey etc etc) who was an in house engineer at Abbey Road for many years. Recently, I have also had some one to one drum tuition myself with the great Steve White (Paul Weller, The Style Council, The Who, Oasis, etc etc)

Since around 2000, I have been a member of top Beatles tribute act, The Cheatles, and have toured many countries including Hong Kong, Dubai, Russia, Cyprus and all over Europe. We have also worked on many cruise ships (Cunard, Royal Carribean and NCL). The Cheatles have had many high profile clients such as Jamie Oliver, David Tennant, Paul Scholes, Margaret Thatcher, John Major, Manchester Utd FC, Manchester City FC, Aston Villa FC, and Burnley FC (Up The Clarets!) and many more.
