Drum Lessons Burnley

I teach drums mostly from my home on Brunshaw Road in Burnley. I’ve been giving drum lessons for a few years now, and I really enjoy it. I’m a member of Drumsense run by Colin Woolway (ex Suzi Quattro), who has written some great drum teaching books which form the basis of my lessons. As learning from books requires some basic music reading skills, I teach this from the start. It’s not as difficult as you might think, and it’s a great skill to have if you take your drumming seriously. The Drumsense books have you playing basic rock rhythms from day one, and to compliment this, I have a large library of ‘playalong’ tracks (songs minus the drums) which add to the fun of playing drums, and put the rhythms the pupil is learning into context. Drumsense books contain enough material to keep most beginners busy for quite a while, covering rock, pop, jazz and blues rhythms, as well as many of the drum rudiments. I have some students that are also having drum lessons at school (although these lessons seem to be very short, and usually the children are taught in groups). Often they are learning songs from the ‘Rockschool’ series of books which are graded, and it’s possible to gain Nationally recognised certificates if you so wish. For more advanced players, I have a good collection of other drum books containing every style imaginable. I’m still working from them myself after 27 years drumming!

In my drum room, I have three drum kits set up. Two acoustic kits, and one electric. The student plays one (either acoustic or electric), and I play the other. Electric kits are very popular these days, and it’s easy to understand why. Acoustic kits are very loud, and unless you have incredibly patient neighbours (which luckily I do!), being able to play almost silently using headphones is a big advantage. Absolute beginners to drumming often don’t have a drum kit at all when they first come to me, and I’m always happy to advise and help you find the right drums for you.

Pricing for my drum lessons is set at £20 per hour, which I believe to be very competitive. Most of my students come weekly, but for others weekly can be a bit expensive. If fortnightly would suit you better, that’s fine with me. If the practice is put in at home, good progress can still be made. I only teach Monday – Thursday at the moment due to commitments with my very busy band, and evenings are obviously the most popular (although I am available during the daytime). Therefore lesson slots are limited. Please click on the ‘Contact Me‘ tab and give me a call or drop me an email if you have any questions!

The desire to play the drums has always been an ambition of mine but sadly I never got round to learning, however at the tender age of 52 I found I suddenly had time on my hands,I contacted chris and explained my circumstances and he had no problems with taking someone of my age on.
I found chris very easy and patient to work with, he taught me from never having struck a drum to a level I was looking for,so no matter what age you are young or old chris is very professional in the way he teaches.
There is a link below to youtube showing what chris has done for me.
Thanks chris.

having been taught by chris i cant thank him enough,he has taught me from a complete beginner to the level i was looking for,i am now capable and confident of taking on new projects, when i rang chris and asked if he could teach me he had no hesitation in doing so,i was 51 yrs old before i ever struck a drum but that wasnt a problem for chris,so no matter what age you are, old or young there is still time to learn. i have uploaded six tracks to you tube so if you want to have a look at what chris can do for you feel free, cheers chris. i hope this link below to you tube will work.

My son has been going to Chris for drum lessons for the past year and a half. I find Chris Lewis a competant, patient and excellent teacher. I feel Chris teaches to the individual rather than offer a set lesson for all to follow.. My son has grown as a drummer, and will soon be going to college to study music. I have no doubt that this is mainly down to Chris Lewis, Thank you.
